While I enjoyed art when I was a younger child, I lost that passion during high school and began focusing on engineering. I had a rocky re-introduction to art in 11th grade in Art 1. I realized that what I loved was somewhere less physical than studio art and less mathematical than engineering. My parents helped me narrow down what I possibly wanted to do into three majors: Visual Communication Technology, Fashion Merchandising, or Graphic Design. I realized that graphic design’s breadth of possible jobs was what would allow me to decide over the next four years.
After three years at Bowling Green State University, I found what I had been looking for. In a junior year class, we began learning about and using After Effects, Premiere, Figma, and Adobe Aero for the first time. I loved the feeling of figuring out a new program through trial and error and using that to communicate precisely what I wanted. The minute, behind-the-scenes details and time-consuming edits were what intrigued me about this process.
If my classmates couldn’t figure out how to do something in After Effects, Figma, etc., I was eager to figure out what was wrong and what I could learn from that.
When I’m not damaging my posture in front of my computer, I enjoy playing basketball, hiking/biking through trails, or listening to music.
